The answer? Maybe yes and maybe no. This is just an example of the many questions that bother women of today especially those who are really excited to have children but who cannot. In fact, this concern can be a big dilemma to women since the society always pressures the woman to have a child and achieve the role of motherhood. In conservative societies, not bearing a child could mean uselessness of a woman. Some are not even recognized in their communities due to this circumstance.
There are various reasons why women can’t get pregnant. Listed below are some of the reasons:
- Smoking and alcohol intake- Several studies have already revealed that people who smoke and drink alcohol have difficulty in getting pregnant. This is because smoking and alcohol intake lowers the estrogen level of women. Effects of the chemicals present in them can reduce the nutrients that a woman should have to get ready for pregnancy. In the same way, if your partner cannot do away with these vices, it can also lower their sperm count necessary for pregnancy to take place.
- Use of contraceptive pill- Many women nowadays are using the most affordable and most accessible method of contraceptive, and these are pills. This is usually taken by women who want to control their number of children. And when the time comes that they are now ready for pregnancy, they encounter difficulties. Why is this so? Pills have effect on one’s system and if you did not take it for a long time, it might be that your body is still undergoing hormonal changes that reacted once you are taking the pills again.
- Stress, stress and stress- Since everything now is going global, people from all walks of life are also keeping at pace with the modern world. In short, everybody is busy working and this can cause stress. In First World countries, stress is the major factor on why people acquire lifestyle diseases. Stress also contributes why women can’t get pregnant. Sometimes couples are just too tired to have sex. And when they do, it didn’t match with the perfect timing in the ovulation cycle. Sex should be done at the peak of the woman’s ovulation cycle.
- Age- As the woman grows older (let’s say 35), the eggs and hormones necessary for fertilization may be lesser. This is also true for men who are in their 40’s, causing male infertility. Remember, a woman’s age will not only affect the frequency of the ovulation but also its quality.
- Other Medical Problems- Some experts noted that people who have thyroid problems and undiagnosed diabetes can also hinder pregnancy to take place.
